scanner, detected by sane-find-scanner but not by scanimage

Postby jringoot » Tue May 01, 2012 23:10

Hi,

My scanner, a HP PSC 1200, doesn't work in Sabayon Linux. (works with Ubuntu ;), Hey I did not say the W-word! )
xsane says: no scanners found.

I read through some documentation and tried the following:
Code: Select all
alex ~ # sane-find-scanner

  # sane-find-scanner will now attempt to detect your scanner. If the
  # result is different from what you expected, first make sure your
  # scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer.

  # No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that
  # you have loaded a kernel SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.

found USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0 [Hewlett-Packard], product=0x2f11 [psc 1200 series]) at libusb:006:004
  # Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be supported by
  # SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage.

  # Not checking for parallel port scanners.

  # Most Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary ports
  # can't be detected by this program.
alex ~ # scanimage -L

No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).
alex ~ #

I read a bit further in the manpages but got not wiser.
A suggestion in the right direction would be great.

Thanks,

Joost

Have you got hplip installed? If not then try installing it and rebooting.

Superb tip dunsurfin: That's the solution!
Now Xsane can use the scanner.

Thanks a lot!

How do I give you credit for this?

BTW: meanwhile I hooked the scanner to a laptop with fedora 16, there only install of xsane was needed... and yes dependencies. I suspected some "dependency" problem, and I guess Sabayon Linux has stricter dependency politics than the more popular distro's like ubuntu and fedora.

You just did. :) I'm pleased it's working.
