"equo install entropy" broke consoleKit [Solved]

Postby martytin » Thu Apr 26, 2012 9:35

Hi,
my latest attempt to update/upgrade sabayonlix 64 kde left me unable to log into kde -- again.
Since the packed manager icon showed no updates after three days offline (which was odd) I did an "equo update" which took much longer than usual to run through and in the end showed 73 updates including one for entropy, if I remember right.
So I did one "equo install entropy" followed by "equo conf update".
I did a reboot which showed an error of loading konsolekit and I could not log in to kde desktop. There was an error message:
"ConsoleKit session: Unable to open session: Launch helper exited with unknown return code 127"

I would be grateful for help.

Hi,

Can you login in a tty as root ? If yes, perhaps would you try to refresh the list of your mirrors with the "equo mirrorsort weekly.sabayon" command, then something such as "equo update && equo upgrade && equo install consolekit"

Which repos are you using ?

Just FYI, the correct command is "equo repo mirrorsort sabayon-weekly"

well I can log into Fluxbox. But for some reason I don't get internet connection there. Many apps which are in the fluxbox menu don't work (eg firefox).
Since I usually don't use fluxbox I am not sure if beeing offline is related to the konsoleKit problem.

Hi,
ConsoleKit, not konsolekit. It is not related to KDE, it's a set of methods to tweak permissions in systems.

So what about trying to login in console as root ? If you don't get a connection, try something like "dhclient eth0" to get a one shot connection, and see if that works.

Thanks for the help,
I did the equo update and equo upgrade from a chroot environment off a live dvd.
Then it worked again.
