Remove portage

Postby manifesto » Tue Apr 17, 2012 22:51

Hi,

A while ago I remember to have installed some portage stuff on the top of sabayon.
Finally I am not using portage so much as I found what I need in entropy.
I am thinking to remove portage from my system but I am not sure about entropy/portage interaction.
Can I remove /usr/portage and /var/lib/portage and layman ?
Can I as well remove emerge and others portage commands ?

I would like to find out package I may have installed with portage (I remember 1 or 2).
I tried equery but I found quite a lot of (equery list \* )
however /var/lib/portage/world there's only a few files ...

So finally can I remove all portage stuff from sabayon and how to check what has been installed with emerge ?

I would advise against doing that as if anything would happen or go wrong with entropy and you need to reinstall it, you can always access it via overlay and install it with emerge. It makes for a great backup/rescue tool. Portage should be using the world file for packages installed.
