OK, so just for the hell of it I tried an installation again today using my original live DVD and it worked. I do not know any solid reason why there was a difference. I have made some minor changes to my system but none of these made a difference during previous efforts.
Win 7 installed due to XP crashes and inability to install SL8 or Open Suse12.xx, so the bootloader was reset... I can't imagine why this would make a difference.
My IDE controller card was removed permanently as Win 7 would crash after installing the driver. Additionally, three attached IDE hard disks are no longer connected. This was disconnected and removed in separate attempts at SL8 installation.
RAM was upgraded from 2Gb Super Talent to 8Gb Patriot but installation was also attempted after this modification. Also gives me no logical reason for the failures I was experiencing.
So, for reasons unknown I am now able to run Sabayon Linux. I am so happy
Thank you to everyone who helped.
