Re: Sabayon 8 installer crashes after selecting HDDs to moun

tomekwalowski, have you tried creating the partitions first, using e.g. GParted on SystemRescueCd, before you run the SL LiveDVD? If not, try that (and create ext4 partitions). Also, I suggest you file a bug report in the SL Bugzilla (see the link 'Bugs' at the top of this page) and include the output.

I also try to install sabayon on a already partioned disk.

I tried Version 8 and a daily. But whatever I do:
- using graphical installer
- using text installer
- trying to install from the live environment

It crashes around the hdd-issues.

Most of the time, I can choose the partion /dev/sda2 and link it to /.
When the installer does it's work, it seems the best I can get that it creates the file-system on it - and then I get lines of python debug code .... I just want the installer to use a already existing (and working) partition.

The same here as like other reported:
The live environment works fine - the installer crashes after or when doing the make of file-system stuff. Maybe I try tomorrow to get the exact debug messages to post them here....

O.K.
whatever went wront trying KDE-Version 8 first and then a daily of lxde -

third try success: I installed CoreCDX amd64 Version 8 on my /dev/sda2 with preinstalled xfs file system. And because this is not exactly gentoo, the updates weren't that much of pain to make ... :D :D :D

So this could be a start of a longer relationship.

OK, so just for the hell of it I tried an installation again today using my original live DVD and it worked. I do not know any solid reason why there was a difference. I have made some minor changes to my system but none of these made a difference during previous efforts.

Win 7 installed due to XP crashes and inability to install SL8 or Open Suse12.xx, so the bootloader was reset... I can't imagine why this would make a difference.

My IDE controller card was removed permanently as Win 7 would crash after installing the driver. Additionally, three attached IDE hard disks are no longer connected. This was disconnected and removed in separate attempts at SL8 installation.

RAM was upgraded from 2Gb Super Talent to 8Gb Patriot but installation was also attempted after this modification. Also gives me no logical reason for the failures I was experiencing.

So, for reasons unknown I am now able to run Sabayon Linux. I am so happy :D

Thank you to everyone who helped.

One should try to keep the extra peripherals down to a minimal when installing. Peripherals can definitely cause problems and as fussy as anaconda is, the less it has to do and less confused it is, the better.
