Tv Tuner Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-930C-HD kernel support [Solved]

Postby msdobrescu » Wed Dec 14, 2011 14:19

Hello,

I was told that Tv Tuner Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-930C support was added to the kernel.
Could anyone confirm that a Sabayon kernel having support for this tunner is released or released soon?

Thank you.

Well, roumors say that kernel 3.3 has support for it.
It is a dvb card. How should I try to scan for the channels?

I use Tvheadend as the back-end and XBMC as the front-end on my Media Centre. See the thread Request for advice on making a Media Centre [Solved] for details of how to install and configure Tvheadend and XMBC to display DVB-T television. N.B. There is a later version of Tvheadend now, as that thread is from 2009/2010. Also, as SL these days does not come configured out-of-the-box for Portage, see also NOTE 1 in my post Re: Can I install .rpm or .deb drivers on Sabayon? for how to set up SL first.

My issue relates to the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-930C-HD young support in the kernel drivers.
I guess it is not initialized correctly before I try to scan for the DVB-C channels. w_scan finds nothing.
It might be necessary to switch the tuner to the DVB-C mode. I have no idea how or what tool to use for this.
Any advice?

I've got an answer through the linux-media channel:

If you're using the very latest version of the driver (the one at the
media-build tree), you can use the dvb-fe-util tool to change
the delivery system to DVB-C or to DVB-T.

The tool is now part of the v4l-utils.

Do we have such tool in the Sabayon repos?

You can check using the Sabayon Packages search page: https://packages.sabayon.org/

If the package v4l-utils is not included in an Entropy repository, then file a request for it to be included by clicking on the link 'Bugs' at the top right of this page.

It seems to be such package:

https://packages.sabayon.org/show/v4l-utils,11556385,portage,arch,0,standard

It is unclear to me whether it contains the tool I need, or if it is named slightly different.
I'll check it tonight.

If the package is shown on a brown background, that means it is not in Entropy, it's in Portage. Notice also the "sourceportagegentoo | date: 2012-02-19 15:14:32" along the bottom of the tab. File a request for it to be added to Entropy.

Done, but I will try to build it tonight myself, because I need to test.

How would I know whether the package contains or not dvb-fe-util or some other command. I think it doesn't.
