USB 3.0 PCI Express card disappered

Postby abadonna » Wed Mar 14, 2012 5:38

Some time ago I have posted my "cry for help" http://forum.sabayon.org/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=26591&p=146293&hilit=astrotek#p146293. My Astrotek PCI Express USB 3.0 controller stopped being recognised by Sabayon.
Before the critical update (I have mentioned in previous post) it worked like a charm, and since then it is no longer recognised...

I hope you can help me with this issue. I haven't got my USB 3 working any more :?

Re: USB 3.0 PCI Express card disappered

Postby abadonna » Tue Mar 27, 2012 3:35

Hi guys,

I was waiting for new kernel (3.3) to be released hoping it will fix my USB 3.0 problem. Today I have upgraded to the latest kernel and... still no USB 3.0.

lsusb shows:

I've checked if xhci_hcd module was loaded... Nope, it wasn't, so:

modprobe xhci_hcd

and lspci -v:

Errors! None of my USB 3.0 device works :-(

I have started to think that my PCIe card is broken. Tried from Windows 7 - works! Must be good then...

Any idea what else could I try to do?

Re: USB 3.0 PCI Express card disappered

Postby joeoden » Sat Mar 31, 2012 6:56

The mobo I use has 1 usb 3 port built in, I had to add another 2 port usb 3 card for obvious reasons
When I first installed the card only one of the 2 ports would work (but under that other OS all 3 ports worked) not until I read your post which reminded me that my usb 3 ports had a problem

I use the limbo repo for this system so I have the linux-sabayon-3.3 kernel installed on this amd64 kde machine and because of your post I just had to see if I was still having usb 3 problems, I am glad to report that all 3 usb ports are now working

I am not sure if it was the linux-sabayon-3.3 kernel that fixed my problem or if it was a faulty power cable that was connected to the usb 3 card, don't know if your card uses one of the power connectors (mine uses the same as the old 3.5 inch ide hdd) if it does make sure the pins are not loose inside the connector

I noticed that you have a Firewire Controller check to make sure that you do not have any IRQ/bus conflicts with any cards you may have added to your computer (remember just because it works with that other OS doesn't mean it will work with Unix/Linux)

I have noticed that Sabayon_Linux_DAILY_amd64_K.iso (release date Wed Mar 28 09:42:00 CEST 2012) has the linux-sabayon-3.3 kernel just as a suggestion download that image or later and see if you are still having the same issues while running the livedvd

Here is some cml output from my system

Re: USB 3.0 PCI Express card disappered

Postby abadonna » Tue Apr 03, 2012 5:32

My card does not have separate power socket.

(remember just because it works with that other OS doesn't mean it will work with Unix/Linux)

As I have mentioned before - it used to work with my Sabayon perfectly. The problem appeared after update on Feb 19th. (vide: my previous post you've mentioned).

You never reported if your issue with http://forum.sabayon.org/viewtopic.php? ... ek#p146293 was solved or not

Solved partially with KDE 4.8.1. But only partially.:

I've got the serious problem with KDE 4.8 and USB media (pendrives and external HDDs). When I connect USB pendrive to my computers (those updated to the latest KDE), it crashes KDE 4.8.

Has been solved.

More to it: I've got Astrotek PCI Express VLI USB 3.0 controller in one of my PCs. After the system update (KDE 4.8.0) my controller stopped recognising USB devices (either USB 3.0 or 2.0). Before it worked as a charm.

Still problematic :-(
