compiling issues [Solved]

Postby Psybin » Thu Mar 15, 2012 20:24

Hello, I've been using Sabayon for a while and I love it! I'm not a noob but I have a lot to learn. I did a search for this problem and couldn't find anything so I apologize if this topic has been covered elsewhere.

Whenever I try to compile something, it freezes up my computer almost completely and I have to reboot. It hangs at:

Checking for gcc... gcc

I have gcc installed. I tried one thing a while ago (forgot) and it didn't help. This can't be too common I imagine?

Difficult to say indeed...

It can be an hardware problem (I/O, CPU usage, etc...) or due to the system.

What are you trying to compile?
Can you run the command "top" just before compiling and see if anything strange?

This is what is currently running and I'd say is typical when I would go to compile:

pulseaudio
chrome
yakuake
dropbox
X
plasma-desktop
gam_server
mount.ntfs-3g
chrome
firefox
kworker/1:2
top
init
kthreadd
ksoftirqd/0
migration/0
cpuset
khelper
netns
sync_supers
bdi-default
kintegrityd

I was trying to compile Dropbox and before it was just random apps or games. I installed Dropbox another way so that's fine. It's the same problem each time I compile anything though. I'm running a Pentium dual core 2.2ghz and 4gb ram. The system runs great 99% of the time. This issue is part of that 1%.

Yeah I found dropbox on entropy after I first tried compiling. I looked and saw I had gcc-4.5.3-r1 installed but not 4.6.2 so I got that and it worked! Thanks a bunch. =)
