KDE 4.8.0 and JDownloader and Dolphin lock

Postby msdobrescu » Sat Mar 17, 2012 8:36

Hello,

I have Sabayon up to date.
I use JDownloader to download several files. JDownloader is java-based.

Code: Select all
eselect java-vm list
Available Java Virtual Machines:
grep: /usr/share/java-config-2/vm/emul-linux-x86-java-1.6: No such file or directory
grep: /usr/share/java-config-2/vm/icedtea-6: No such file or directory
  [1]   emul-linux-x86-java-1.6
  [2]   icedtea-6
  [3]   icedtea-7  system-vm
  [4]   icedtea-bin-6
  [5]   oracle-jdk-bin-1.7
  [6]   sun-jdk-1.6

I see there are some issues, but I don't think it is related to.

I watch the folder in Dolphin, the size of the files increases as they are downloaded.
Soon, that Dolphin instance becomes unresponsive. I have to kill it or to wait the download to finish.

Sometimes the KDE stalls. In these cases, it seem to stall forever. So I have to go to console and kill java process. SOmetimes KDE becomes responsive, sometimes not, so I need to reboot.

I have an i7 i920, an nVidia 560TI card, 6GB of RAM, GA-EX58-UD5 mainboard.

Am I the only one having this kind of issue?

Thank you.

Hello, this may or may not help, but kde 4.8.1 is in the sabayonlinux.org repo so hopefully it will migrate to weekly for this weeks upgrade & solve your problem?
Or you can install from the repo now if you add it.

I am not lazy, maybe a bit fuzzy.
I have sabayon-weekly configured, by default.
How should I install sabayonlinux.org repo, if that's different from sabayon-weekly?
I have no update/upgrade notification from Sulfur.

Packages move from limbo to sabayonlinux.org & from there to weekly, so you may see 4.8.1 appear this weekend in weekly.
If you want to change repo edit /etc/entropy/repositories.conf to point towards sabayonlinux.org:

Code: Select all
#    official-repository-id = <repository identifier>
#
official-repository-id = sabayonlinux.org

#
#  syntax for download-speed-limit:

Go to /etc/entropy/repositories.conf.d/entropy_sabayonlinux.org.example & rename to entropy_sabayonlinux.org (I also renamed entropy_sabayon-weekly to entropy_sabayon-weekly.example)

Code: Select all
#equo update --force
#equo repo mirrorsort sabayonlinux.org
#equo upgrade --ask

If you open sulfur you should see it pointing towards sabayonlinux.org as well.

Thank you.
Why sabayonlinux.org is not available as weekly or limbo in Sulfur's list?
What is the difference between sabayonlinux.org repo and weekly?

I've explained it many times, but here goes again:

Do not use weekly AND Limbo.
If you want to use Limbo, use sabayonlinux.org and Limbo

How our workflow goes:

- Packages get compiled and packaged into Limbo.
- After some testing period --> move to sabayonlinux.org
- Each weekend a copy is made from sabayonlinux.org this is sabayon-weekly
(this is done to have a small delay to final test some migrations or resolve conflicts)

^ When you installed stuff from Limbo and it moved in sabayonlinux.org (you don't have that) it will downgrade, because it can not find those packages anymore.

I noticed that Sulfur offers to enable Limbo next to the default weekly, this is actually not wanted.

Thank you both, I know the limbo.
After the procedure, I have 2 things:
1. The issue is still there.
2. I have weekly and sabayonlinux.org repos active, so I have unchecked the weekly in Sulfur. I guess that's because I have forgotten to rename the sabayon-weekly repo in /etc/entropy/repositories.conf.d/.

What I don't understand: I have expected that sabayonlinux.org repo has the latest drivers.
The weekly one instructed me to upgrade to nvidia drivers v295, but sabayonlinux.org repo to v290.
What's the catch?

How could I clean the kernel modules?

I was wondering if it is one repo vs another issue...

The issue continues on KDE 4.8.3 and seems to be KDE related (I have suspected some java interaction).
So, if I open smb4k, a bookmark, and that bookmark in Dolphin, I start to copy some files there, soon (in a few secs), that instance of Dolphin stalls.
I could terminate Dolphin only. If I wait, and the file copying takes time (let say 5 minutes), the whole KDE UI stalls.
I have to RESET my PC. No keyboard input is available.

Could be related to multithreading, during the file copy and refreshing the files list in Dolphin (the file size changes...).

Any idea?

Thanks.
