having trouble with gdm and awesome [Solved]

Postby dwolf » Thu Mar 08, 2012 3:27

ive been using sabayon for about a year now, and im loving it. i used awesome for awhile after the experimental release and i really liked it but now that sabayon stopped releasing it i tried gnome with cinnamon. im really liking it but i want to use awesome too. now this is when i ran into my problem. i installed awesome but whenever i try to login into it, it starts going into it, freezes, then the screen goes black and gdm restarts and takes me back to the login screen. now ive never messed with gdm before because it never gave me any problems, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

any one in particular? i checked out the /xsessions awesome.desktop file and it looks different than the one that i found online but the one i found online was for an older version of awesome so i dont know if it would be different. and its hard to find info on awesome because of the name.

i tried running awesome in a terminal, and i read the error message, and finally (i feel like an idiot) i figured out i just needed to install "x11-libs/xcb-util-image". now it works. sorry if i wasted anyones time.
