The easiest way of using the opensource driver without editing grub, etc. is to add a file called radeon.conf in the /etc/modprob.d directory as root. then edit radeon.conf and add this line without the quotes "options radeon modeset=1", then save and reboot. The ATI-userland (ATI Catalyst) drivers are not installed on a fresh install of Sabayon 7/8 anyway so no need to remove them, you will now have 3d and still retain the graphical boot..

There is no radeon.conf in /etc/modprob.d. I created one and wrote what you said, but it didn't work. I am still in fallback mode. Please help
