Equo & manually removing packages [Solved]

Postby cl00t » Fri Feb 10, 2012 22:10

Hello,

Running v7 KDE with all updates, weekly repo (not limbo).
Doing Equo Upgrade advises to remove 3 packages, see below:

Code: Select all
>>  @@ Calculating System Updates...
>>  @@ Nothing to update.
>>  @@ On the system there are packages that are not available anymore in the online repositories.
>>  @@ Even if they are usually harmless, it is suggested (after proper verification) to remove them.
>>  @@ These are the packages that should be MANUALLY removed:
>>  ## [sabayonlinux.org] dev-libs/libnl-1.1-r2 [988.9kB]
>>  ## [sabayonlinux.org] dev-java/icedtea6-bin-1.10.3 [112.4MB]
>>  ## [sabayonlinux.org] kde-misc/knetworkmanager-9999 [6.0MB]
>>  @@ Nothing to remove.
>>  @@ Configuration files scan complete.

How do I "properly verify" that I don't need those packages. I know how to remove packages manually using equo & not remove deps, but considering I use KDE I think removing the network manager will screw things up. Not sure if icetea or libnl are needed though?

deptest & libtest show no problems.

Any advice please?

Thank you.

Those only appear when we removed them from the repository.
No you do not need them anymore in that case.

Thanks,

Ok, I removed them one by one, just the packages, no deps.
So. of course, after uninstalling knetworkmanager I have nothing in the tray to enable switching bewteen connections.
I tried wicd but that doesn't support vpn connections, I need to be able to connect to vpn connections at will which knetworkmanager did well.

If knm is not included in SL8, what does it use, which I need to install in order to restore this function?

KNetworkManager was replaced by NetworkManagement.

Code: Select all
equo install networkmanagement

Hello,

Thanks, I removed all 3 items with --ask --nodeps switches, then install networkmanagement.
I rebooted. Networkmanagement worked ok.
I ran a deptest & dev-libs/libnl-1.1-r2 installed again. Clearly it has not been removed from the weekly repo?

Code: Select all

If I choose to remove dev-libs/libnl-1.1-r2 without the --nodeps switch it wants to remove a lot of packages

Code: Select all
# equo remove dev-libs/libnl-1.1-r2 --ask

Where am I going wrong, it advises to remove dev-libs/libnl-1.1-r2 but it is not proving easy.

Thank you

You still need dev-libs/libnl.

http://packages.sabayon.org/show/libnl, ... -show-what

I suspect Entropy suggested it for removal because it was a previously pulled in dep. from kde-misc/knetworkmanager-9999
