Compositing not enabled and can't be enabled

Postby mgbowe1 » Thu Feb 09, 2012 5:43

I just installed Sabayon 8 (I decided to migrate from Xubuntu because the compiz website claimed Sabayon had native Compiz support) and after seeing Compiz was not Installed, I immediately installed all the compiz packages I could find through Entropy. I have various effects 'enabled' but NONE of them are working. After installing Avant Window Navigator I discovered Compositing was disabled. As I am new to Sabayon, how would I use the GUI or Terminal to Actually Enable Compositing. I am running an HP Pavilion dv6tse:
Intel Core i5
8GB RAM
AMD/ATI Raedon 6770M 1GB
640 GB HDD (Sabayon on 45GB Partition)

Normally you set that up in the xorg file. Compiz is a dead project tho so I would avoid it myself.

make sure eselect opengl list is * to right driver

should have something like

Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "Enable"
EndSection

in xorg file

I edited xorg.conf and tried to manually start compiz as my window manager.I hope my terminal out put helps. This was the resultant error:
compiz (core) - Warn: SmcOpenConnection failed: None of the authentication protocols specified are supported
compiz (core) - Fatal: glXCreateContext failed
compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0
