I have both xorg-server 1.11.3 (sabayon-weekly) and 1.10.4 on entropy (sabayonlinux.org). I haven't added either to package.mask (apart from trying to mask esound, the last things I masked were thunderbird, enigmail and kgrubeditor when they were causing problems. I unmasked them a long time ago.
Reinstalling entropy makes no difference.
When I chrooted I first tried
Code: Select all
equo update
and was informed that entropy was up to date so I used
Code: Select all
equo update --force
. Then I used
Code: Select all
equo upgrade --ask
with the only upgrade being to remove esound. So I used
Code: Select all
equo install x11-base/xorg-server-1.10.4
and that was succesful. Then I exited and rebooted.

Entropy still wants to install 1.11.3

no, i'm on 64bit.
but, you have both sabayonlinux.org and sabayon-weekly enabled?
Try to disable weekly repo., you can do that with sulfur.
in advanced mode, goto "repositories" TAB,
and "untick" sabayon-weekly

then, equo update && equo upgrade --ask or --pretend

My 64bit system has not been affected.

I have had the two repositories enabled since the inception of the weekly repository as a way of being able to downgrade a buggy update. There has never been this sort of problem before.

In a case like this, Main is a head of weekly as weekly still has 1.11.3, so it's not going to downgrade but is gonna upgrade the revisions of the drivers which are for 1.10. You can always enable a repo later if you need too. You just need to be aware of what is going on. Xorg and Kernel are two changes that can't be taken lightly, need to know what is going on with system.

Thanks for the explanation wolfden. I shall mark it as solved. My main machine is the 32bit so I always update the 64bit first to see if there any errors and the 64bit repos were the same for weekly and main. I shall look more carefully next time.
