Homedirs removed after update! [Solved]

Postby ReemZ » Tue Jan 24, 2012 15:59

Good thing I tend to perform updates on the lappy first and hold them off on the desky at least until after rebooting the lappy. Last night I ran an update&&upgrade on the lappy and when I just booted the machine up again I found my homedir gone. Same for my girlfriend's homedir (I created an account for her on my lappy). As in: completely removed. /home is empty. Fortunately, her homedir was empty and mine only had a file or two I've also got on my desky, so no vital data were lost. And yes I know it's quite possible to recreate those homedirs and copy stuff from a skel over.
However, I'd like to know if anyone else has experienced this and in plain old English: how the fsck could this happen?

Just updated 2 desktops (both kde, one x86-64 and one x86, fully updated running kernel 3.2). Neither has lost any diretories/folders/files.

weird, just blame AjeZ!

I haven't seen anyone reporting an issue like this. Maybe check the entropy log?

At least explain if your /home is a seperate parition.

post the ouput of:
Code: Select all
fdisk -l

and:
Code: Select all
cat /proc/mounts

and maybe:
Code: Select all
cat /etc/fstab

lol wolf, I think I will
Anyway, did a fresh reinstall so no logs to be retrieved anymore, and Joost nopez, no separate /home partition, I went with the installer's default (separate /boot and / partitions and LVM).

At least I don't have to worry it might affect other users...

Then I'm afraid we never can find any kind of explanation.

True that. As this topic is now useless, should I mark it as [Solved] or will the dear moderator simply delete the thread?
