SL7_amd64_G Missing operating system after install [Solved]

Postby ioio » Thu Jan 12, 2012 15:04

Hi@All..

I'm trying to install SL 7 on my XPS 420.
The problem?
After installing the message displayed is: "Missing operating system"

Anaconda recognizes my RAID 0:
Intel ICH8R/ICH9R/ICH10R/Do RAID adapter.
And everything. Partitioning goes well. The install finishes, reboot:

"Missing operating system"

Any lucky guess?

Hi

Grub doesn't boot on Raid software. He needs a /boot as primary partition

Example :

sda1 /boot
sda2 +sdb[X] / [RAID]
...

Let me get this straight, having a HW RAID on board, I do need another HDD to boot the filesystem, because Grub does not work with RAID?

Thanks.

I said Software raid.

If you have Hardware raid I think you have not problem (I used for a long ADAPTEC external Raid without problem)
Check your bios and make sure boot is set fine on your hard drive priority. Yor raid is "0" ,; maybe bootloader was installed on wrong HDD drive (Raid 0 = A+B )

Hi,

thank you for your answer. I've got a HW Raid from Intel, perfectly recognized in Anaconda, but as explained before I get no OS to boot.
Anyway I solved the issue with a workaround. Actually without thinking about it I added a little security feature.
The bootloader was installed to an UsbKey, so w/out it the system does not boot :D

Thank you anyway.

Ciao.
