issue with network and theme

Postby r00tH4cK3r » Mon Jan 02, 2012 17:28

This is an edited version of a thread I made previously called insufficient privileges.

I was able to bypass that error, but now my connection process is a bit complex.

In order to connect to the internet, i must manually go into my wireless connection tab in edit connections, add the SSID and interface (wlan0) manually, add the password info manually, save, retype password and uncheck use for all users at the bottom right, then save again. This process, though complex, allows me to connect to the internet. However, it is only a temporary fix, as I have to do this every time I logout or reboot.

It should also be noted that I have no actual network connections manager. I will include a screenshot so you guys will better understand my issue here.

Also is there any way to theme enlightenment? The dock at the bottom is a little large and I'd like to make it transparent or at least install a theme that looks better to me. I have browsed the forum on both issues and have not found it, so I figured posting about it is the next best thing.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

hmmm I believe I have seen this behavior before and can't remember if a fix was given. You should have something like net-misc/networkmanager-0.9.2.0 installed. I remember what a pita it was with a manual config, but I since have switched to DHCP and config settings in the router for the MAC address. Seems NM rewrites the config files on each reboot. I think one solution was to lock the file down so nothing could make changes to it.

I'm wondering if WICD wouldn't work better since it seems it's still a pita with manual stuff. Our wiki should have a howto for wicd.

Themeing e17, sure, but you'll need to look up the e17 documentation or look at something like http://e17-stuff.org/

Regarding the networking problems, perhaps the thread NetworkManager won't remember any settings [Solved] will help.
