Get Sabayon to allow me to boot from external drive?

Postby argedion » Mon Dec 26, 2011 23:06

I really like the look and feel of this system however under my current setup i cannot install this unless i can do it on an external drive as boot. This works flawlessly with Fedora and Mandriva. Does anyone know how to make it work for Sabayon?

What operating system(s) do you have installed on your internal hard drive? And which boot loader are you using on your internal hard drive? GRUB Legacy? GRUB 2? Windows Boot Manager? NTLDR? Or...? And where is the boot loader installed on your internal hard drive? Completely to the MBR or to another partition?

Hi,
I also have a question : how different can it be to boot an external drive and to boot a usb pendrive when the machine can boot to usb ?

Very different: read unetbootin Wiki for an explanation. (Another thing is that the pen drive has to be FAT32 formated for UNetbootin to install a Live environment.)

Humm... I have installed a live Sabayon to an ext3 partition on pendrive, by hand. I didn't use Unetbootin, but instructions from the wiki Sabayon. ;)

I will go read your link anyhow, thank you !
