LXDE battery monitor stays at 100%

Postby ReemZ » Wed Nov 30, 2011 20:47

Think the title says it all, in LXDE the battery monitor keeps showing a 100% charge.
This is a bit of a problem on a laptop, as one might imagine...

I did post on the LXDE forum a while ago but didn't manage to solve the problem then, and now this adds to it.
Has anyone got an idea where to look?

According to the link Joost sent me, the culprit is lxpanel-5.8.0 and the problem should be fixed in lxpanel-0.5.8-r1 which is in Portage but not in Entropy yet:
Code: Select all

Merging from Portage doesn't work for me though:
Code: Select all
Sm0kerZ-T0shiba ~ # emerge -av lxpanel

Made package request in the comments section of the bug I'd already filed instead of filing a separate package request, so as not to clog things up.

Re: LXDE battery monitor stays at 100%

Postby ReemZ » Thu Jan 12, 2012 2:33

Updated to lxpanel-0.5.8-r1, then opened an LXDE session to check.
The battery monitor now shows 30% charged, I'll run a longer session tomorrow to see what it does, hopefully the alarm goes off once the charge drops to critical level!
If so, I'll mark this as solved.

Battery monitor shows charge again so that part is indeed solved.
However, it still doesn't give me any warning and I think I've got an idea why: there's an option to set the time to be left as the critical level, it's kinda hidden though as it doesn't show upon right-clicking the battery monitor itself and selecting "Battery Monitor" Settings, you'll need to right-click anywhere on the panel and select Add/Remove Panel Settings, find Battery Monitor in the list and click the Edit button (or double-click Battery Monitor in the list).
There you'll see the otherwise missing option Alarm time (minutes left) which is set to 5 minutes by default.
When hovering the mouse pointer over the Battery Monitor a tooltip shows the remaining charge and time.
I'm willing to believe the remaining charge is accurate, however the remaining time always shows 0:00 :?

A related problem has been posted to the LXDE bugtracker on Sourceforge as Bug 3018792, on which I've commented.
