Damaged files or something...?

Hi

For some reason several of my files on a NTFS partition are not visable. When i do:

$ ls /media/<disk>/<mydir>

I get these:

ls: cannot access /media/...

Although they take up space and show in terminal. When I try to access them it would appear that they do not exist. Could anyone suggest anything?

Which version of SL are you running? Desktop Environment...
did you had access before, and suddenly not anymore?
Also, for example: if i want to list the content of '/mdeia/server' in a terminal,
you type: 'ls /media/server/' (end with a slash...) if you forget that last slash, you get the message: can not access....

is the package: sys-fs/ntfs3g-2011.4.12 installed?
Can you paste here the content of '/etc/fstab' ?

Yes, I had access before and not all of the files in the specified directory have this problem. I happened all of a sudden. I have ntfs3g and it worked fine before. Also I have one more linux distribution and win7. All of them have the same problem.

This is the a "healthy" file and a "damaged" or whatever file.

the partitions you don't have access to, can you access them as root?
It's not a proper solution, but if so,
you can mount them pemanently, and add them to /etc/fstab
as root, create the mountpoints in /media
and modify /etc/fstab
example:

/dev/sdc1                                         /media/Se7en       ntfs-3g    defaults           0 0
/dev/sdc2                                         /media/backup      ntfs-3g    defaults           0 0


This way, you have allways access to your ntfs-partitions as a normal user.

i can access any partition. I can't access several files on one of my partitions

i assume that you have Windows installed, next to Sabayon.
Can you access the files in Windows?
If the files indeed are damaged, you should boot into the MS-Windows environment, and try to repare them from there.
