server installation

Hi

I am using gentoo on desktop and laptop for few years. I am using debian on servers.
I decided to use sabayon on server instead debian. I am pretty satisfy with gentoo so maintaing servers will much easier.

There is SERVERBASE iso. I did download it, then I did make boot usb flash and boot testing server with it.
Well, there is no "install sabayon" icon in console and I am not able to find any "howto install server".

please, is there any tutorial how to install sabayon as server from console without any X {well, DesktopEnviroment}.

okay, starting anaconda I am getting error.
as first it is saying that there is not graphics so running in text mode.

later it say error about error with python packages, something about pyanaconda....corecd.py

Hi, welcome to the Sabayon Linux forums

As far as I know any console based version can be installed booting to a console then running:
(as root)

installer


you will get the console mode installer.

If you got an internet connection, before going through the installation, run:
(as root)

Code: Select all

liveinst-update-quick


to update the installation program.

well, I did find out that there is not possibility to create custom partitions.
so I did used coreCDX image and used graphical installer.

now I am customizing fresh server installation ...

Yes, that is a drawback of text installations, unfortunately the partitioning is quite lackluster. Do consider using the server oriented Sabayon kernel, the package is linux-server, you can use kernel-switcher to ease your job installing the server kernel:

at the moment we are not using ipv6 so I did disable that, and some other protocols editing following file

Just so I'm clear, there's no way to map or manipulate the partition usage of the ServerBase.iso install?

I've got a new install, blank drive. I used GParted to set up the necessary partitions. Now I want to load up GRUB2, and map the installation files to the waiting partitions. Every time I get to the Partitioning Type section of the installer, it only gives me the option to Use Entire Drive, Replace Existing, or use Free Space.

From the sounds of things, I need to install using one of the GUI installers, then switch to the server kernel afterwards?
