*nm-system-settings.conf file is empty

Postby kp2george75 » Mon Oct 31, 2011 0:27

It has been a long time since I have had wireless access with my laptop. My wireless setup was wiped out with a recent download of a group of 22 updates. I reinstalled the setup multiple times but no wireless. I re-insatlled SL6 after that but to no avail. Then I upgraded to SL7-x86 to no avail. Today, I upgraded to SL7-amd-64 but it did not help either. The wireless setup still will not work. But, I may have found a reason and I need some expert help in correcting the problem which is as follows:

My *nm-system-settings.conf file is empty - 0 bytes! I thought that it should have 70 bytes in it? equo conf update does not touch it but then I do not have internet access handy. Re-installation of SL6 or SL7 does not correct it.

Can anyone help me solve this problem? THANKS

A download and update today of 40+ files via Ethernet [Solved] my problem of no bytes in my *nm-system-settings.conf file. However, I still cannot alter and save the file to get automatic wireless service as described previously by Kashiura.

I did manually set up wireless again today which gave me internet access for between 2 and 5 minutes each time before my wireless connection suddenly crashed and wiped the setup out. I set it up again, rebooted, and it did or did not connect again after many tries and reboots. I have had less than 10 minutes of wireless connection in the last 90+ minutes. Is the new broadband driver update today to blame in any way for the crashes? Does anyone else have this problem?

I need help, but at this advanced stage of frustration, I hardly know what help to ask for except for someone to fix the wireless problem. Thanks, in advance, for your help and consideration.

I'm suffering something like this now.

It happened in this order:

1. equo conf update tells me I have two packages with no use and they should be removed

2. I removed those packages, considering they don't seem to be of use

3. Entropy store tells me I have two updates... Surprise: the two packages I have just removed

4. I reinstalled them. I rebooted.

5. Have no NetworkManager Icon on gnome superior panel

7. Tried to run NetworkManager via terminal and I got this error about a wimax lib not accesing certain shared file.

8. I opened network setup and after configuring my wireless home connection it says there has been an error saving data.

I tried so many stuff to regain access to my network devices with no luck at all. Now I found this post here and I see it's suspiciously like my problem after updating.

Any clue beyond what kp2george75 has exposed?
