Over the last several years I have had my wireless access setup (automatic and manual) wiped out 3 times after down loading and installing updated files/programs. It happened again last week with the new 22 updates and I have not been able to get wireless connections to work since.
I have attempted repairs by using recent {SOLVED} information on a parallel problem by using gedit to change a *=true flag to *=false in the *nm-system-settings,conf file, after using chmod to give me root permission to write to the file. Writing to the file is no problem, however, when using either save, or save as, it won't save the corrected file because it says that "it cannot save a backup file,- - - ", for whatever reason. I am "dead in the water" and need detailed help.
System is HP-dv6800 laptop, 2 GB RAM, 500 GB HD, NVIDIA graphics.
I hate to use Vista to call for help with Linux but after 3+ years with SL, I don't want to switch to another OS.
Can anyone help? Thanks.
