XFCE / Totem & video codecs [Solved]

Moving my thread here (I had it in "Beginners|Newbies Area" without answers).

I'm running Sabayon 6 XFCE upgraded to 7. I've installed the packages mentioned in this fixed bug, but Totem is still not able to play the video (sound works ok) of avi divx/xvid files like this.



What could be the problem? VLC can do it, but I'd like to use Totem.

Try a 'tail -f /var/log/messages' into a separate terminal and try to play some files with totem, and look into the terminal for some errors, pastebin them here if there is anything to see about

Nothing new in /var/log/messages when playing one of this videos.

I've now reinstalled gstreamer and checked, as recommended in the gstreamer doc site, that the xvid plugin (as others ones) are correctly installed.

And mplayer plays this video correctly, uses ffmpeg.

So, if I'm right the problem is in GStreamer or Totem.

the file is played correctly without totem...

I had problem with totem too what I did was emerge with USE="bluetooth galago nsplugin -debug -doc -iplayer -lirc -nautilus -python -tracker -upnp -youtube" works great now but I think youtube was the culprit

I have not tested this solution yet because totem is running properly in Sabayon 7 XFCE iso, tested in a VM, so I think that it should work fine with entropy binaries.

Also, I have a symptom that may indicate that I have not enough RAM memory (just 1Gb), cause have seen that some video start playing 1 or 2 seconds and then gets frozen. Anyway wanted to add 1Gb more to this machine, I'll test then and comment here.

you shouldn't need no where close to 1GB to play videos biggest thing you would notice speed up is compile times. If you have a modern video card mplayer would be a better player for HD content because you can use card to decode

Certainly, to expand my ram memory did nothing with this issue.

Today I've tested again and it looks that some update has solved my problem.
