This happens whether I want to simply run the livedvd or install (with gui)
from the Sabayon_Linux_6_amd64_E17.iso
But it's the installer I want to use...
When I try to use the graphical installer the video fails when it should first
be asking me which language to use. At which point my Sony flatscreen monitor
informs me that the video signal is out of range "resolution > 1280x1024" no
mater which combination of: legacy (noapic nolapic acpi=off) noaccelmanager
I insert into the boot options...
It occurred to me to try adding "installer-gui" to the safe mode boot options...
but it turns out that safe mode had the same problem.
I could run it in console mode, but the text installer doesn't seem to
offer a custom partition option...
(there being only choices for: :
use entire drive
replace existing linux
use freespace
I've got 4 other working linux installations. With preformatted ext3
partitions. I do not want Sabayon to reformat any of them.
Though, If I could simply tell it to "replace existing Linux" on the
already empty preformatted ext3 partition I could put up with needing to use
e2label & tune2fs on it to restore my required settings.
But while it will let me choose which hard drive, it won't let me select a
partition before it wants to write changes to disk... This is not good.
As it happens this 6 year old HP Pavilion a140n with an AMD Athlon 64
processor and 1 gig of ram, has an integrated "Nvidia GeForce 6150 LE"
graphics adapter that did not respond well to the nouveau driver with
Arch, OpenSuSE, PCLinuxOS, nor Ubuntu. In every case I needed to use
whatever proprietary Nvidia drivers their repository offered...
And since I can't understand any other reason why the gui installer
would insist on a "resolution > 1280x1024" I think what I need to know is
how to get the installer to NOT use the nouveau driver????
Though if the experts here don't think that's the problem, then I'd welcome
their suggestions of what it could be...

PS:
I tried searching the forum prior to posting, but the search tool didn't
want to include the search term "nvidia" so I searched for the quoted string
"Nvidia GeForce 6150 LE" where one thread was for a similar problem...
{see 2007 thread @ viewtopic.php?f=50&t=11607&p=66665}
But the nokvm cheat code that wolfden suggested didn't work for me.
