Possible to create LiveCD from installed system?

Hi,

i wonder if its possible to create a LiveCD iso from an already installed an configured Sabayon using Molecule or any other tool.

I looked at "LiveClone" from the salix community and "remastersys" from Ubuntu. Is there anything similar here?
This would be like creating a bootable snapshot of a system.

Testing several Linux distributions I found out that PCLinuxOS enables creating a medium from installed system.

Afaik, molecule plus a the configs you want in the skel folder and it's done.

Indeed there a few distros that offer this (ubuntu, salix.org, topasnet.ch and maybe others) but i would like to stay on Sabayon if possible.

I read the molecule wiki a few times, and from what i understand, one can only add files to a list to add on the distribution iso. But its not a "clone" or "snapshot" of an installed system. Unless i have misunderstood the wiki, molecule will not help me here.

Im actually hoping deep inside me that someone with greater knowledge than i have, will look at the topasnet.ch site and "transcribe" the scripts this guy created to be used in Sabayon.

If so, just make an iso from your hard disk. Afterall, the iso images are just a way to put many files into a single one.

I havent thougt of that, interesting approach. Is the structure of the installed system the same than on the install media? I m sure molecule expects files to be in an exact same position compared to the distribution iso.

And what tool would you use to copy the installed system into an iso file?

I am trying to do the same thing.

The problem with making an ISO of the hard drive is first that it wont work as a live session. Second, its not something that can be installed to another computer as a new user with all the settings and customizations of the previous user from which the snap shot came from.

Does anyone see the problem here? Something like Remastersys can then be plugged into Unebootin after you get the system ISO......is this possible with Molecule?

I found Unetbootin in the repository.

It seems like the installed system is too big though. I went crazy with free apps, but I am at nearly 20gb. Few people will isntall that many apps, but it still seems like it should be compressed a little more.

Any other way to get a / system ISO? Maybe from a backup tool?

Look under the section:
2. Run VMware Virtual Machine RO

With his script you can create a LiveCD from the running virtual machine (vm running read only).

Unfortunately im not sure if this script is running under sabayon without changes.
