System settings missing filesharing

Postby CCR » Sat Sep 10, 2011 15:41

Hi!
When doing a fresh install of sabayon 6 one can easily set up Nfs and samba by rightclicking a folder-->Properties-->sharing or using the filesharing module in System settings.
After last KDE update the module is missing and by rightclicking folder-->Properties-->sharing only samba shows...
Using the command kcmshell4 --list in terminal shows module fileshare no longer present.
Will this be fixed or do one have to set up NFS and Samba through different methods from now on??
Is there another gui for NFS sharing??

Although it was already installed and i already had tried re-installing it with sulfur, i did as you suggested.
No luck at all i am afraid..

Just out of interest, have you tried disabling UFW to see if it is blocking it?

Yep i have no firewall enabled.
The kcmshell4 module fileshare is simply missing..
Updating today to kde 4.7.1 did not help.
I have searched the KDE forums also but found nothing regarding this.
I installed sabayon 6 on two different computers (laptop and desktop) and when updating the system both of them lost the fileshare module in control center...
I am really confused because when googling about it, the problem does not even seem to exist :?

You mean you don't have /usr/bin/kcmshell4? Not that I use it, but it is installed (via Portage) in any case on my laptop:

Code: Select all
# eix kcmshell
[I] kde-base/kcmshell
     Available versions:  (4) 4.6.3 4.6.5 (~)4.7.0 (~)4.7.1
        {aqua debug kdeenablefinal kdeprefix}
Installed versions:  4.7.1(4)(22:06:16 10/09/11)(-aqua -debug -kdeenablefinal)
     Homepage:            http://www.kde.org/
Description:         KCMShell is a utility to host KDE control modules independently of SystemSettings.

[code]# whereis kcmshell
kcmshell:
# whereis kcmshell4
kcmshell4: /usr/bin/kcmshell4 /usr/X11R6/bin/kcmshell4 /usr/bin/X11/kcmshell4
# locate kcmshell | grep bin
/usr/bin/kcmshell4
#

If installing via Entropy does not result in /usr/bin/kcmshell4 then perhaps you could try installing kde-base/kcmshell via Portage to check what happens?

No i do have kcmshell4 installed...everything is in order.
i also have working systemsettings in KDE.... but what i am trying to say is that one of the modules in systemsettings is missing. The one called fileshare. Normally when rightclicking a folder choosing properties and then sharing, there is an option to set up filesharing with NFS and also Samba. Then you are asked foor root password and then Kcmshell4 fileshare is started. the same fileshare module can normally be found in KDE systemsettings.
when installing Sabayon6 everything works and when updating Sabayon to kde 4.7 it is not working anymore.
Hope i am not being too detailed now :D i just want the friggin thing to work again, as it is my preferred way of setting up and changing filesharing in my home network.

Gotcha.

Install Konqueror. Believe it or not, that adds items to System Settings Network Settings menu.

Nope.. That did not help.
However a module to set a standard username and password, when browsing windows smb shares showed up.
...in systemsettings that is.
I wonder if there is some other way to get the fileshare module back... and how it got excluded in the first place.
