HP Deskjet F2100 does not print [Solved]

Hi!
When I try: System settings > Hardware > Printer config. : after a minute a window opens with a WARNING to choose "terminate" or not - but nothing happens in both cases.
If I want to print, I can see my HP USB printer:

Name: Deskjet_ F2100_series Location: sabayon Type: HP_HP Deskjet 9300

Any idea?

I assume you have hplip installed. Have you tried the CUPS interface (Menu "System", "Manage Printing")?

1. I forgot to mention: some weeks ago, I had no problem with the printer: After some updates it suddenly stopped to work.
2. No, hplip is not installed as I see now, but I was thinking it is only for net-print (it is listed there)

3. I' ve read about cups 1.4.8, but don't know how to proceed.
The problem is, as I wrote, System Settings is not answering.

I've always had a hard time getting system settings printer configuration to work so use the CUPS interface. I think it may be a good idea for you to install hplip and, if you haven't got it, cups.

1. Some weeks ago the printer worked fine.
2. I only installed the updates - and yesterday hplip.
3. System Settings / Hardware / Printer Configuration:
After a few minutes a window opens:

Warning Kwin. The window "System Settings" is not responding ... Terminate | Cancel.
In both cases I only see a white window

System > Manage printing:
http://localhost:631/ opens, but I don't know how to proceed.
I suppose only I can see the error log. Should I post a part?

Does the Kwin warning happen on any other configuration or just on the printer configuration?

Once you have a the CUPS page open, go to the "Administration" Tab and select "Add Printer". It should then guide you through the process. It will ask for a username and password and you should use "root" and your root password. It's also important to remember to add "allowed users" in "Printers" tab, select your printer (after it has been added) and set the allowed users via "administration".

harmon, which kernel package version are you using? Whichever it is, if you have not done so already, please install the corresponding sabayon-sources package so that you can check something.

I compiled my kernel image using that, but I had to make a change to it to stop the usblp module being created even though it was blacklisted. As you can see below, the kernel config file for the stock SL kernel 3.0-r8 specifies the module:

Even though /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf blacklists the module (which is called usblp, by the way):

my USB-connected printers did not work (although networked printers did work). I therefore had to disable completely CONFIG_USB_PRINTER in the kernel:

I have looked at the SL Web site's Packages page for CUPS and see that the Entropy package for CUPS is correctly built with USE="usb". But this means that the kernel must be built with CONFIG_USB_PRINTER=n (i.e. Not Set), not CONFIG_USB_PRINTER=m (i.e. Module).

That might be the cause of your problem.


EDIT: I've just had a look at the kernel config for 3.0-r10 in the SL Git repository, and 3.0-r10 also has CONFIG_USB_PRINTER=m.

Sorry for the delay, but I had to solve some other problems with computers in our family
[ I have a working multiboot on my laptop].
After the last updates the printer again works.

Following on from my previous post, just for information this is what is displayed by the ebuild when one merges cups-1.4.8-r22:
