I have a Twinview rig with a 24" 1920x1200@60 and a 23" 1920x1080@120 on a GTX260.
When I first got the ASUS 120hz LCD I found that the only way to get it in 120hz mode was to run nvidia-settings as root. On login, Compiz would come up and then I could su, nvidia-settings, and as nvidia-settings popped up, my ASUS screen would flicker and accept its 120hz refresh setting. After an update a few months ago, this no longer fixes my problem. xorg.conf appears valid (and unchanged) and nvidia-settings still gives me the option of 120hz. Clearly though it's stuck in 60hz mode no matter what I do. Even if I disable the 60hz screen and use just the 120hz screen, it's stuck in 60.
I've seen a few forums around the Ubunters but no positive solution. Am I the only one with this problem? It's just kind of frustrating to have spent all the cash for a nice 120hz screen and have it suddenly crippled via a software update.
Thanks
