Default disk partitioning on new install

Postby youicide » Sun Jul 31, 2011 18:57

Just switched from debian to sabayon and I'm confused by the default partitioning scheme. I have a 64gb SSD in an AMD 64 system using gnome version of sabayon 6. The installer creates an extended partition (I think) on the drive with three logical partitions with 30 gigs of root, 20 gigs of home and 10 gigs (!) of swap. When I try and change this I run into problems during the install. I've thought of just leaving it this way and booting into a live cd to change it but that seems kind of silly.

Sorry if I appear a bit confused and frustrated but I'm used to
/dev/sda1 10GB as /
/dev/sda2 512MB as swap
/dev/sda3 50GB as /home

The default partition scheme will give you an lvm, I do not need or use lvm, I always at this stage, choose custom partition, and make my own partition scheme.

Thanks for the quick reply. In the end I gave up, I had wanted to learn more about linux, gentoo was a bit of a pain, sabayon seemed to be a middle ground but once I realized enquo was a binary package manager and emerge usage was discouraged I just went back to debian, switched to the black gnome theme and began compiling programs from source by hand.

Thinking that emerge is discouraged on Sabayon is a common mistake. emerge is discouraged if the user has little or no experience in compiling applications and if there is no particular reason for using it.
In other words emerge is discouraged if you don't know what you are doing. Portage is there because it can be used and it is one of the 2 supported package managers available on Sabayon.
