Wireless Connect but not Firefox 5

Postby sqlpython » Sat Jul 09, 2011 14:15

Not sure to go with this........?
I am sitting in an Auto Dealership waiting for my car and using their Wireless using Slackware 13.1.0 because my Sabayon 6 Wireless won't connect via Firefox 5..

This problem occurs on the same Lenovo Thinkpad SL410..which I have installed Sabayon 6, Debian 6, Slackware 13.1 & Kubuntu 10.04 lts.

I booted to Sabayon per usual but while I connected to the Dealer (No Security) customer WiFi Firefox 5 would not bring up the Dealer's Signature page.. See, like so many public WiFi you are immediately faced with that Host company's sign on Web page. The page appears after connect in Slackware but not Sabayon.
So Both Wifi establish connection but only Slackware's Firefox 5 displays the Signon web page. Sabayon's Firefox 5 just gives back a [Cannot Connect]...
Also Slackware uses Wicd to establish connections....
Any thoughts?..........Coming to you from Slackware :pirat:

Try disabling IPv6 in Firefox:

about:config

Change network.dns.disableIPv6 to true

Also, check the MTU in both OSs to see if they are different.

Thank You
I always modify my Firefox installs with these modifications

- network.http.pipelining > Make it True

- network.http.pipelining.maxrequests > Make it 8 or 10

- network.http.proxy.pipelining > Make it True

- network.dns.disableIPv6 > Make it True

What I don't know and will check is that I just rolled up from Sabayon 5.5 to 6 and therby I believe I upgraded Firefox from 4.5 to 5.... Am I correct in that assumption as I don't remember what Firefox Came with Sabayon 5.5?
So, I will have to check the the about:config as to my regular config changes...

The version of Firefox on the SL 5.5 KDE LiveDVD was www-client/firefox-3.6.13 according to the package list on the mirrors (e.g. http://na.mirror.garr.it/mirrors/sabayo ... so.pkglist).
