Some info:

Type:
Wireless 802.11
Connection State:
Unavailable
IP Address:
No IP address.
Connection Speed:
Unknown
System Name:
wlan0
Driver:
ath9k

The wired connection works fine. Running Sabayon 6 KDE. Fresh install. Is wireless supposed to work upon install on Sabayon or are the drivers not installed by default?

* edit *

New info:

Code: Select all
sabayon user # ifconfig wlan0 up
SIOCSIFFLAGS: Unknown error 132

From the looks of it around the net this error is bad news. The fixes are tedious and have to be reapplied after each boot (as in a script). Though I'm no expert so if anyone has an opinion.

Perhaps it's a kernel issue? This is the first time I've run the 2.6.39 kernel. I am running Chakra with 2.6.38.8 and it works fine.

Does your laptop have physical wireless control switch?

The error you seeing is caused by rfkill which turns the wireless of based on those kinds of switches or soft switching apps.

You should be able to do
Code: Select all
rfkill unblock all
and check the switch.

Edit: For my part the issue is solved. Strange, it must have been some dark cloud on the sky or something like that... Maybe it was NetworkManager related, because when I deleted the entry for my wireless network and reconnected (which created a new entry) everything was just working fine again.

Re: Cannot Enable Wireless...

can you post dmesg? from a root terminal

Code: Select all
dmesg |pastebunz

This will produce a url, if you post it here, we can see it. If you leave |pastebunz off, you will see it.
Simply scroll to the end of the message, then start going backwards.
I would be looking for errors that relate to your wireless card, probably needs a newer version of firmware to work, you may see a different error.
Often you can see the error in dmesg, post the url pastebunz gives you, we can help search for the error.
