Slow web browsing, and internet connection in linux [Solved]

Postby marcelC » Tue May 10, 2011 22:23

Hello,
I don't know why this happen's, and how to solve this problem.

The internet it's slower in linux, comparted to windows xp or windows 7 when I am behind the router, it's the feeling like you are having LAG into irc chat ( delays ), but in win. it loads instantly.
No matter If I start Firefox, Chrome, Opera the simptoms are the same.
No matter if I connect trought Cable or with the Wireless card.
I start the webbrownser and give http://www.yahoo.com or http://www.google.com and there is like about 3-6 or even 8 second's delay till the page loads.

But If I connect directly to modem then the speed / delay it is back to normal, or If I connect behind the router with windows.

I installed sabayon KDE edition and when I did equo mirrorselect it tooked a LOT of time, the I did upgrade to the system, that was when I was behind the router, I was thinking to try as well sabayon gnome as well, and I did this install, but now I am conected directly, with no router between me and the modem and mirrorsort worked fine, upgrading the system also.

What could be and how this probelm could be solved?
What details should I give you guys to figure out what is happening?

There are several possible reasons, such as DNS nameservers, ipv6 or MTU setting.

First thing to try: Enter "about:config" in Firefox's address bar and hit Return. Click on "I'll be careful, I promise!" and enter "ipv6" in the Filter bar. You should see a single Preference Name network.dns.disableIPv6 and its value is likely to be shown as "false". If it is, double-click on it to change its value to "true", i.e. you are disabling IP version 6 in Firefox.

Uncomment the line "alias net-pf-10 off # IPv6" in the file /etc/modprobe.d/aliases.conf, then enter the command update-modules as root user.

You can check if the ipv6 module is loaded or not by using the command:

Code: Select all
lsmod | grep ipv6

Not solved for me  Fresh install of Sabayon6: slooow www browsing and downgrading updates is a pain (max of 120KB/s instead of >700KB/s)... Using your suggestion didn't work... Any other ideas?
