GParted comes with the GNOME edition of SL. I use that edition, or another LiveCD such as SystemRescueCd (if it can launch Xfce, which the current version cannot on my machines), to create and format the partitions using GParted, and then I switch to the SL KDE LiveDVD, SL E17 LiveCD, or whatever else it is that I am trying to install, for the actual installation.
I have found that GParted works where the KDE Partition Manager does not. There have been occasions when the KDE Partition Manager has apparently partitioned the HDD and formatted the partitions, but I have not been able to install SL. Only by using GParted to re-partition and re-format have I been able to install SL. There have also been occasions when KDE Partition Manager has refused to even partition the HDD, and, again, I've had to resort to using GParted. GParted is a mature application, unlike KDE Partition Manager, which is a new kid on the block.
