LiveUSB Initialization issue

Postby Zboj » Thu Apr 07, 2011 16:03

Hello,

I've got some problem running Sabayon Linux amd64 LiveUSB/CD on my laptop. Specifically you can see it in the picture below (sorry 'bout the quality).

My configuration:
Asus M60J
CPU: Intel i7 720QM
VGA: nVidia Ge-Force G240M

If more necessary, I'll write it down.

I've transcribed the error message:

Code: Select all
udevd-work[6521]: mknod(/dev/pktcdvd/control, 020660, (10,59) failed: Not a directory

Which edition of SL are you trying to boot? KDE? GNOME? Xfce? E17? CoreCDX?

I have no idea what the solution is but, were it to happen to me, I'd try the following:

1. If it's not the KDE or GNOME editions:
a) First I'd try the KDE or GNOME edition, check the md5sum of the ISO, and use UNetbootin to create a LiveUSB (the pen drive's file system must be FAT32).
b) If (a) didn't work, I'd try burning a LiveDVD instead of creating a LiveUSB.

2. If it's not the KDE or GNOME editions, although the error message relates to udev and /dev/pktcdvd I'd suspect the video driver because the closed-source NVIDIA driver is currently missing from the Xfce, E17 and CoreCDX editions (and perhaps the other non-major releases too).

Then really you should post in the ISO Testing & Molecule shed (forum); please see: For Daily ISO Testing. I'll move this thread to that shed.

Is the pen drive formatted as FAT32?

Have you tried creating a LiveUSB using the SL 5.5 amd64 ISO, to see if that works?

Zboj tried daily .iso, because he couldn't run SL 5.5 amd_64. He couldn't boot kernel, the Live distro was frozing.
He tried to run LiveUSB with kernel parameters verbose and noacpi. SL started, but he saw only 2 processor cores (Zboj have intel 4-core processor) and cooler was running like crazy.
So I advice him to try Daily .iso with new kernel, but he have another problems written up.

Yes, it's like raman wrote. And let me just add that besides liveUSB I also tried liveDVD (in case there was somrthing wrong with my USB device).

Right now, I'm out of options.

As you've also experienced the problem with SL 5.5 amd64 GNOME edition, I suggest you file a bug report (see the link Bugs at the top of this page; you can log in using your forum user name and password). Give as much information as you can in your bug report: full details of your hardware (if you can boot another distro or earlier edition of SL and get the output of lspci, lsusb and dmesg that would be useful), attach your photo (if Bugzilla lets you) and also type the error message, and explain exactly at what point in the boot process on screen the message appears, what you did to create the LiveUSB and LiveDVD. Basically give as much information as possible to help the developers try to find what is the cause. Why it is only happening to you I do not know, but it could be a quirk with your particular hardware.

Ok, will do. Thanks for help anyway:)

lspci etc. won't be a problem because currently I'm using other distro.
