initialize and partition issue

Postby eris23 » Tue Mar 29, 2011 1:13

The installer at one point asks if it should re-initilize all drives, or just one. This occurs even if there is only one drive. For clarity there should be a check that, if there is only one drive, only shows one option.

The installer at another point asks if the whole drive should be partitioned, or just the linux partitions. This occurs even if there are no partitions on the drive. For clarity there should be a check that, if there are no paritions on the drives, only shows the one option.

Which version? Need more information. I haven't seen such things in quite some time and I just did a fresh install the other day with a daily.

I've been periodically installing the daily images in VirtualBox. Each is a fresh install, with a single, newly created, drive. So, only a single drive with no previous partitions or other operating systems.

Well, the next time I'm forced to restart my system I'll see what happens if I try to install Sabayonlinux to a single blank drive with no other drives attached (or, maybe I'll get curious and try it later tonight).

Well, I've checked in VirtualBox. The install sees an unpartitioned drive. It then shows the dialog with the "Re-initialize" and "Re-initialize all" options. Again, with only a single drive one of those selections is superfluous. Later is the dialog with "Use All Space", "Replace Existing Linux System(s)", "Shrink Current System", etc. As there are no systems on the disk, two of the selections are superfluous.

Checked install to a real (not virtual) single unpartitioned disk (no other drives present). Confirmed situation exists on both the SabayonLinux 5.5 amd64 K and the SabayonLinux DAILY amd64 K of 20110406.

I'm hung up on the same issues. I don't know if I should be "re-initializing all" or not. Also, I don't know if I should then be "Using all space" or "replace existing Linux system(s)." Then, which devices should I select on which to boot my system? I've got a Sabayon 5.3 KDE Live disc. Also, I'm relatively new at playing with virtualbox and alternate Linux distros.
