Just checking the member list trying to pick up trends for my own info.
One item really struck me. The User/Bot penisnll listed as the #1 poster with 16777215 Posts.
Joined and Last visted:
Tue Mar 06, 2007 20:20 ......that is a lot of post in One Second..
So my question is why is what seems an obvious Bot left on the Member list?

I also noticed that we have a Healthy member list of 31402..most are probably inactive.
Inactive meaning no visits in over 1 yr.
Obviously though many have found Sabayon compelling as a Desktop and have joined.
Also noticed that of the 31402 members only about 120 have posted 100 or more posts. I am trying to make that 121.

Mepis forums have 3775 members with about 155 who have posted over 100 posts..

What does this mean............ Nothing....but just an interesting contrast.

The large majority of the 31402 are spammers. That figure is unrepresentative of the real number of genuine SL forum users.

Yep, that's the best approach. I word it a bit differently.
I usually post when I need an answer to question about the Distro I am using and don't know the answer myself.
But I understand many people arent' interested in the Community's workings just the Install's workings. I find it interesting as to who is a member (sometimes I spot friends from other Distros).
How long they have been a member?
Are they still posting?
Gives me a sense of ebb and flow of the community.
Just like like to know the fine people I am dealing with.

Yes, I immediately came to that conclusion. I should have stated my question more clearly. It is a curiosity to me as to why such an obvious Spam/Bot is left from 2007? A bit funny as the Spammer is the #1 poster..
Maybe no one has simply ever noticed it..

There are phpBB tools to perform maintenance on the user base. A few months ago I had a look through the Members list, and there is a very large number of members who have zero posts (mostly spammers) or have never posted in several years. I was contemplating a very gentle first pruning using the following filters:

Prune users who:
- Joined: Before: 2007-01-01
- Last active: Before: 2007-01-01
- Posts: Equal to: 0
- Delete pruned user posts: No
- Deactivate or delete user: Delete

Then:
- Resynchronise statistics
- Recalculate the total number of posts, topics, users and files.

But one of my forum admin. colleagues is nervous about us using the pruning tools in case there is a problem and it messes up the forum, and has asked me to hold off. And there's no way on God's Earth that I am looking through a list of some 31,400 users and deleting offending users one-by-one manually.

You'll want to make sure you don't delete search engine bot.

Edit: Or perhaps I'm mistaken and those aren't really used anymore...what do I know about forum maintenance? Pretty much nothing.

I have and still do moderated forums. As such I do have access to such tools. I do know that I would be apprehensive using some forum tools. Forum engines and their tools sometimes don't behave as advertised. So I understand why the moderators here would be hesitate to use tools that are untested here.

I guess just leave what ain't broke alone..

BTW your Filter to prune the Member database seems to me both a conservative and good approach.
