Wine/CDROM/Diablo 2 install issues [Solved]

Postby Phr0zen » Sun Mar 13, 2011 21:33

I am running 5.5 x64 Gnome. I am trying to install Diablo 2 but not getting too far with it.

I think the issue is that the cdrom is not being mounted properly. Is there a way that the cdrom can be mounted automatically instead of having to click the icon in the lower right, then mounting it? Can it be set to just auto mount?

Wine Issues:

At first, I inserted the cd, mounted it (via the corner icon), right click setup.exe on the disk and install with wine. This didn't work as it kept saying "insert install disc".

So I ran winecfg, and set the D: to /media/install and then the install ran! yay..... well not really. I entered the cdkey, hit next, and it asks for the next disc, the play disc. So I ejected the install disc, inserted the play disc.... and once again wine has a problem. Cannot find the disc.

So I try to winecfg again.. switch the d: to /media/playdisc but it wont read it. Seems like it crashed it. Now I cannot even eject the cdrom. I had to reboot to get the cdrom to eject.

I even tried winedoors, but that didn't do anything either. I did not have these issues with Ubuntu, or any other distro.

Can someone please provide a detailed step by step(for a retard like me) to get this installed on sabayon? I'd like to keep the distro but if something this simple is causing problems, might have to switch.

Thanks in advance.

Ignore this guys. I got it to work.

Not sure why it was crashing so much during the cd swaps, but I just reinstalled wine/winedoors and everything went well again.

Sorry for wasting you time!

I know you said to ignore, and not post. But for future references, I know a very useful way around this.

If you go to battle.net and login/create an account, you can put in your CD key for D2, or D2 LoD, and get a digital copy assigned to you. This way, all you have to do is download the *.exe installer and install from there. No CD's no more Keys to keep up with. Nearly flawless install process..

Hope it helps future people! xD
