How to protect wireless [Solved]

Hi, I was wondering how I can secure my wirless connection, I have a open wireless connection and I have noticed activity on my connection not coming from my computer and I also know there has been someone hacking the forums so I wonder if they are getting access from my connection- I have noticed porn on the forums tonite and I am concerned about unauthorized access from my network- Thanks Tim

Switch your router to use WPA or WPA2 encryption. Choose a good, long password which is a mixture of letters and numbers (write it down and keep it safe so you don't forget it!). Use your network management GUI (nm-applet or Network Management or ConnMan, or whatever it is you are using) to change your PC's wireless connection to WPA/WPA2 and enter the password there (you only need to do it once) to enable your PC to connect to the encrypted network. I would not bother cloaking (hiding) the network SSID (name) as that can make connection to it more awkward and does not increase security -- see Re: Cannot connect to my wireless network.

BTW, what hacking of the forums? These forums? If you mean spammers, we get them all the time and the moderators or administrators delete the offending user. This goes on all the time, and a few of the spammers are porn spammers, but most are not.

There are various methods of trying to stop spammers, such as a CAPTCHA, but some of these spammers are not bots and can actually get past the filters. It's quite interesting to see some of the spamming techniques some of these people use. Some of the spammers in these forums have actually made on-topic posts, and it's only by looking at their posts more carefully that you find a hidden spam link. Anyway, they are the scum of the Earth!

yes they are-it's interesting cause I read the forums and look to see who I can help and come across mumble jumble and you think wtf
