Problem to Install Sabayon 5.5 [Solved]

Hi all.

I want install Sabayon into toshiba, its has a Video Card ATI x1200, but when I choose graphical installation, show me problem X Server (error of device) and I dont know how to resolve this problem. I wait their help, this distro es very good, I can custom to me way, use easy, and more.

When you reach the boot menu of the LiveDVD, press F5 an append xdriver=radeon to the kernel boot line then hit Enter. Then try to install. If that does not work then try appending xdriver=vesa instead.

Or you could also try this (thanks joost!):
1- remove the console=tty1 quiet splash= and vga= completely
2- add to kernel options radeon.modeset=1
3- boot Live

Now install correctly, but a problem arises when trying to activate Compiz, when active, the screen turns white and can not do anything.

I have to change something extra for the effects work well?

are you using kde, gnome, or other ?

open a terminal and switch to root:
su
and enter password.

enter the command:
eselect opengl list

is your ati driver selected ?

the one being used will have an * next to it. to change it enter: eselect opengl set 1, or eselect opengl set 2, or which ever the number is for ati.

enter comand:
eselect kernel list

which kernel do you have ?


enter command:
equo search ati

about 200 results will come, a lot i know. try to find your driver that has your kernel in the results. does the description say it is installed ?

If using the Radeon open-source driver or the VESA open-source driver then the OP needs do the following as root user in a Konsole/Terminal window:

The closed-source Catalyst (a.k.a. FGLRX) driver does not support the ATI X1200 GPU. In fact, if the closed-source driver (ati-drivers) is installed, it is better to remove it:

sorry, i dont know ati or gnome very well. but i know on kde, compiz and desktop effects won't work without a propriety driver for the video card. im guessing the same for you, compiz won't work unless you can find an ati driver that works for your x1200 card.
i went to the ati website and i see a legacy driver for x1200 for linux. it is nearly 2 years old. i dont know if sabayon has it, or can get it. also i dont know if it will work for kernel 37. maybe if you use emerge commands and pull from gentoo,or try to compile it yourself, but again i dont know. the link i found:

^Well, I have not used the open-source (Radeon) driver for a year now, but Compiz certainly used to work with it in KDE on my Acer TravelMate 8215WLMi laptop with Mobility Radeon X1600 GPU, which, like the OP's, is not supported by the closed-source AMD Catalyst (FGLRX) driver. (The last version of the Catalyst driver that supported my X1600 GPU was 9.2.) So, unless something has changed, the open-source driver can be used with Compiz.

The last time I tried to build version 9.2 (9 = 2009; 2 = February) of the Catalyst driver, it would not work with the latest kernel, which was a few kernel versions back, so I think the OP should stick with the latest version of the open-source driver.

In case it's of any help, when I was using the open-source Radeon driver (xf86-video-ati) and Compiz, the Device section of my xorg.conf file included the following lines:

Thanks for your help.

I was testing the driver link you posted and I had problems with kernel version seems to be a distro issue before installing sabayon, I was using Fedora 14 and could be activated compiz.

One option I have is I installed an old version of sabayon and enable compiz and then upgrade to the current version, but do not know if this is feasible.
