OpenOffice<BIN> Portage dependencies

Postby alonsoty » Mon Nov 15, 2010 14:20

Maybe I had to post in this topic, but it seems to me less pertinent.
The real problem is that I have not yet completely clear the operation of the masks.

I tried the binary package of OpenOffice by Portage way with:
Code: Select all
emerge -1v openoffice-bin

getting the same Reemz's "sanity check protections" for dependencies: sys-libs/glibc-2.9_p20081201-r3...
But my system uses sys-libs/glibc-2.11.2 without problems, why I'm look for trouble?
In a bad way I altered inserting comment: \etc\portage\package.mask
Code: Select all
#>sys-devel/binutils-2.20
#>sys-libs/glibc-2.10.1

and try with
Code: Select all
emerge -1vp openoffice-bin

and the two packages of glibc and binutils dependencies seems no more involved now... then the problem wasn't the version!? :?
In fact running emerge without the 'pretend' option, they are not even downloaded it (avoiding any disaster).

Needless to say that the binary package works, but it drags behind all the languages.
Finally, I uncommented the mask and it seems that everything works.

Be patient but I'm just now learning to combine Portage and Entropy.
I know that I love the danger! ...But I wanted to ask if what I saw in reality hides a strange behavior (or not).

EDIT: 15 Nov 2010 h15:05 -----
I also wrong the section of the topic! You could move in Portage section?
Thanks

please, for mix entropy or portage, first edit /etc/entropy/client.conf and change disable to enable[b] in the session `ignore pseudo downgrades` if you not made this, you will receive messages for entropy suggesting downgrade AS upgrade,

On the other hand, GLIBC is a critical library. For install openoffice.bin, use portage or entropy, since it is BIN, it will not be recompiled....!

Code: Select all
OR YOU USE

equo install glibc openoffice-bin

OR you use

emerge -av glibc openoffice-bin

It is not in my opinion, an strange behaviour, this indicates for me that their version that you wanto install, of openoffice-bin was compiled using an antiche glibc 9 library!

alternative, if you have the GLIBC 11 OR 12, installed, to avoid their downgrade, please use the nodeps options Instead as commands above, made

Code: Select all
OR YOU USE

equo install  --nodeps openoffice-bin

OR YOU USE

emerge -av --nodeps openoffice-bin

However OpenOffice is INSTALLED in Sabayon as DEFAULT, you do not need re-install it.

Thanks albfneto, for suggestions regarding client.conf

I thought there were less heterogeneous packages using portage ...
I must always have to be careful ...
