With Sabayon Linux (and Gentoo Linux, on which SL is based), one can really learn what's under the Linux hood if one wants. I've had to 'lift the hood' on Ubuntu, PCLinuxOS and Sabayon/Gentoo, and I found the best for learning what makes Linux tick is the latter.
BTW, the Gentoo folk will tell you Sabayon isn't Gentoo. I look at it this way: if I pimp a Rolls Royce, it's still a Rolls Royce, right?
