emerge dfu-util? [Solved]

Postby smchadwell » Wed May 05, 2010 13:56

Hi, forgive the newbie query, but I'm a recent convert from Ubuntu. I'm trying to install dfu-util (the flashing utility for Openmoko phones), and I can see that a gentoo package exists (http://packages.gentoo.org/package/app- ... o-dfu-util). But emerge openmoko-dfu-util and app-mobilephone/openmoko-dfu-util get me nothing.

Am I missing a repository? I'm working on a standard gnome x64 install . . .

Many thanks,

Sean

From the openmoko wiki: " Gentoo - DFU-Util is in the main tree under the name openmoko-dfu-util"
emerge --search confirms:
Code: Select all
emerge --search openmoko
Searching...
[ Results for search key : openmoko ]
[ Applications found : 1 ]
*  app-mobilephone/openmoko-dfu-util
      Latest version available: 5484
      Latest version installed: [ Not Installed ]
      Size of files: 87 kB
      Homepage:      http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Dfu-util
      Description:   implements the Host (PC) side of the USB DFU (Device Firmware Upgrade) protocol
      License:       GPL-2

try to update portage (as root)
Code: Select all
emerge --sync && layman -S

maybe you will need to update layman storage path before... have a look at this: Layman storage path changed from version 1.3.0 on

Here's what I mean by "I'm getting nothing." Everything run as root.

# emerge openmoko-dfu-util
Calculating dependencies... done!

emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "openmoko-dfu-util".

Moreover,

# emerge --search openmoko
Searching...
[ Results for search key : openmoko ]
[ Applications found : 0 ]

And,

# emerge --sync && layman -S
>>> Starting rsync with rsync://81.223.20.162/gentoo-portage...
timed out
rsync error: received SIGINT, SIGTERM, or SIGHUP (code 20) at rsync.c(543) [Receiver=3.0.7]
>>> Retrying...

>>> Starting retry 1 of 3 with rsync://217.19.16.188/gentoo-portage

rsync error: received SIGINT, SIGTERM, or SIGHUP (code 20) at rsync.c(543) [Receiver=3.0.7]
>>> Retrying...

>>> Starting retry 2 of 3 with rsync://193.136.164.6/gentoo-portage

>>> Exceeded PORTAGE_RSYNC_RETRIES: 3

I'm not sure what layman is . . . but

Yeah, that did it. I didn't realize I was behind a firewall that closed rsync's port. Did it instead over a reliance netconnection. Good to go, now.
