Some of you may know me for my b!tching of all the bugs through the years, and some of you may remember how I used to hang out in #sabayon and help people before it moved to freenode.
In short, I've been a Gentoo user since 2004. My original attraction to Gentoo was the idea of building things with, a my own two hands, so to speak. As a result, I refused to use anything that I didn't build myself. But I always liked a lot of the stuff Sabayon did, (and thus, borrowed many ideas from it for my own installs)
But, as life goes on, I don't have time to build and maintain a Gentoo install anymore. (it can be a lot of work), so I threw Sabayon 5.2 on my laptop and I am amazed how well it's running out of the box. (and I love Entropy/Equo/Sulfur) It still could use a lot of work, and I could go on and on about bugs, but I won't
Anyways, I finally got rid of my "Gentoo purist" ego. I realize in the end it doesn't matter whether I'm using a *pure* Gentoo install or not. A install as nice as Sabayon would have taken me 3-4 weeks to build, (and probably longer to make it actually functional!)
As a result, I am enjoying Sabayon for what it is - A really nice "out of the box" Gentoo Experience with a lot of extras and a great community, so I thank the Sabayon team for all their hard work so lazy people like me can enjoy it
Edit: Actually, Sabayon has become much more than just a fork of Gentoo. I should give it more credit
