grub rescue mode after install

Hi all, I am running happily on the 5.2-k live cd now, I have been trying to install it on the hard disk without any luck all day, I have tried everything I can think of to get it running, including going to advanced boot loader mode and telling it to install the boot loader on the first block of the HDD, when I reboot after installing all I get is "Welcome to Grub, entering rescue mode and a command prompt.

I am running a Sony Vaio VGN-FE48G/N

PS I installed 4.1 fine earlier in the day but would rather use 5.x

Perhaps we could assist each other. I am trying just to find where in the live DVD is the advanced boot loader section. In other words, how to repair my MBR or /boot partiton.

How are you accessing that?

hi there, I only get this error when I install the os onto the hard disk, not from the dvd, I am sorry I am unable to help you

run the installer and click thru till you get to it

Hi,
I solved the problem by booting from grub rescue mode. After successful boot, I reinstalled grub.
