Anyone seen James Cameron's film Avatar? I went to see it at the London BFI IMAX this afternoon (biggest cinema screen in the UK, at over 20 metres in height) and I have to say I was impressed. Visually it's stunning in 3D on the big screen.

The storyline is anything but subtle, and the film is not highbrow, but it's better than some of the newspaper critics make out. I was gripped for the 162 minutes. Apparently it's the most expensive film made to date; I've seen figures between US$ 300M and 500M mentioned in the press (which is a big range of uncertainty; surely the studio know more accurately than that how much it cost?!). If you do get a chance to see it in 3D it's worth going in my opinion, even taking the hype into account.

The floating islands, the flying creatures, the jungle and the Scorpion choppers remind me very much of the work of artist Roger Dean in the 1970s. He was the guy who painted LP covers for groups such as Yes, Budgie, Greenslade, Uriah Heep, Badger, Osibisa, etc.

Avatar is a visually stunning movie and should definitely be seen with a high quality screen. If you were ever to see a 3D movie, this should be the one.

The storyline is basically Dances With Wolves, but in space. But the way that the faces are animated and the interaction with real people and animated creatures is amazing.

I dunno, I hear a lot of mixed reviews from it was bestest ever to it suxed the worst. I have not seen it yet, but I will see. I hear it is just a remake of Dances with Wolves but in the future. I liked Dances with Wolves so I am sure I will like this too.

If anyone wants to see the 3D version, see it at an Imax theater. The 3D showings at the regular theaters are basically 2D, but more expensive :( .

Avatar is a film about our future. We will destroy all life on Earth. On our planet, not natives, but humans win in the end

Even Linux will not save the World from humans. You can see them in a film like looking at yourself in the mirror. The only escape is become something new, like Avatar. Without breathing of those millions behind your neck. Here Avatars looks like -

- usually they are animals, eating burgers trying to escape. But only predators among them can have a soul.

Perhaps that will be no bad thing. We have only been around for the tiniest fraction of the Earth's history and perhaps it's time for another form of life to evolve. :alien:

I think, humans are forever, because... Will chickens evolve, ever? Will humans allow them evolve and live as they like?
