Google Chrome with Sabayon 5.2

The new blue theme for 5.2 fits makes Chrome fit in really well. The users would associate Chrome with Sabayon, and since Chrome fast and lightweight, that's how they will perceive Sabayon.

We've had this discussion a couple times on forum already and Firefox will remain as default browser as chrome is still in development and buggy yet. Browser speeds are ms apart and it all depends on who is doing the benchmarking and with what benchmarking tool. User ability is more important. We can maybe take a look at this later down the road.

Perhaps SL should have a Browser Choice icon on the Desktop





(There's no way to tell Windows Update to ignore the Browser Choice update as far as I can see: I ended up downloading it today on my Vista box just to get rid of the nagging in Windows Update. I already have Firefox set as my default browser in Vista, so why does Windows Update insist on offering me this update? Oh well, if it keeps the EU happy... )

Firefox is the best for Linux. Fast, many options. To be tried * Chrome * for which I have no interest and I probably never will use it. So why waste time putting the browser automatically.

Other think, Google take enough a place in the web world ! I dont want a Google *soft* monster ! We already have enough of a monster * Microsoft * warming. So we should have had our lesson without creating another dominant.

The next step for Google is a Cloud computing ! The user is captured and no freedom. For my part I use the least possible now the Google Toolbar. There's something else that Google and even excellent search engine.

To me, Chrome is like OpenSolaris.... Great idea, but late to the game. I use Firefox on all platforms (Windows XP - Windows 7, OS X, and Linux). It not so much as speed and performance as much as I know what to expect from it.

I sort of kinda agree, and with google's stuff reporting back to the mothership it kinda makes some leery of their products. I could care less what google collects on me, someone would have to be really super bored to sift thru my data.

Google Chromium is open source, so if it reports back to the mothership, but is actually an amazing browser (besides that reporting), then you can be sure someone will release it with the Google contacting code removed.

Yea, I've used the SRWare Iron on windows before, mostly for the adblocker stuff. Another thing that is lacking in chrome, had to beat adblock plus on ff.

In the newest version of Chrome (not sure about chromium) it has support for extensions and it does have an adblock extension.

However, it doesn't have near the same underlying support for extensions as FF does and the adblock works differently in Chrome. In Chrome, everything will load (including ads) and then the ads will disappear. FF doesn't even download the ads with adblock.
