World of Warcraft

Hi everyone!

I've just started using Sabayon 5.1 Gaming edition and totally love it! The only thing however that's keeping me from being totally Windows free is WoW. I've read the FAQ at http://www.gentoo-wiki.info/World_of_Warcraft/Wine, but I still have a question.

When WoW updates it seems to leave the patching programs in the C:\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft folder. Can I use these to patch up my Linux based installation (that is, once I've installed WoW)?

Thanks in advance.

I can tell you from experience that this will continue to be a problem with WoW no matter what you do. There have been countless others that have emailed Blizzard and petitioned them to make a native linux client, but they are scared to death that their flagship product will be hacked to bits by linux power users. Everytime you have a patch to load, you will have a hassle to deal with before you get it back running... Blizzard intends to make things difficult for linux users, it's deliberate, and your just gonna have a lot of headaches.. I recommend running it on it's native OS (windows) so that it can use DirectX like it was meant too.. it will run better, and display better graphics that way. I'm sorry for this dissapointment but it's just the truth.

Usualy it should work but there is no guarantee and as haxmeister told it's always a great pain if it doesn't run out of the box and it will sometimes take a few days (or weeks...) until it will be running fine again.

Of course blizzard gets angry, they are greedy and want to FORCE you into paying their $15 a month, that is too high for a game like WoW. Perfect for the beginning of WC4. Don’t forget that most of the stuff we fight now was introduced in WC3, and that game began with nothing to fight but each other. All that’s required is introducing something like “The Scourge”
