KDE Magneto Notifications time out

Postby Stupot » Tue Sep 15, 2009 0:10

Would it be possible to have KDE Notifications disappear after a certain amount of time, or when new ones come in?

If I leave my desktop on and go away for a weekend, I'll have about 20 notifications from magneto, when really I only need the last two. And I don't even need those, because if I double click on the magneto icon, it tells me what there is to update. I would think timing out notifications would be a quick and easy solve to this situation.

P.S. I'm not talking about hiding the notifications either, I mean for them to go away completely.

I would actually file a bug on this, I can see where that would get annoying

Well, the bug I filed got marked as invalid because supposedly this can be controlled through the System Settings...but I don't see it.

I go to the System Settings -> Notifications and change the Event Source to Magneto Entropy Notification Applet events.

The only option that is checked is "Show a message in a popup", but I see no settings to control how long that popup stays. Other applications will popup a notification and it will go away.

Can somebody tell me if I'm missing something before I update the bug report?

I notice that something like the phonon notifications only have that option but they do disappear (too quickly for my liking) so there must be something else that controls the length of time.
On a side note I find the insistence on the entropy notification applet to keep adding notifications if I'm offline when booted up (problems with my Ethernet connection) very irritating and that would be cured by a time out for the notifications.

I did so and provided some more information on the ticket. Apparently there is an option when an app creates a notification for it to be persistent or not. If it is persistent it would behave how Magneto does. I'm guessing that is what is going on.

On the same matter (since it isn't fixed, yet), i would like to know how to best disable Magneto. Should i just uninstall it? i mean, i will still be able to launch Sulfur and check for updates myself, right?

You can uninstall the complete set of Magneto packages or just the loader:

Code: Select all
equo remove app-misc/magneto-loader
