honestly, if you have to ask that question in sabayon (which uses entropy for package management) then your probably not ready for that step.

however one would think you would start with: emerge --sync

p.s. DH, I agree on the WTF post of the month vote.

I know it uses entropy. But sabayon is based on gentoo sooooo...... anyways, hopefully syncing it will get my package lists updated. If this works. My guess would be that It was already using the gentoo repo. It just wasn't updated to the latest list.

why dont you try entropy first, since you seem to be set on using portage without knowing how to use portage you loose nothing in learning why we do things the way we do.

Are you talking about using them as 3rd party ebuilds? It's not needed. You use portage like you would use it with gentoo.

Please see our wiki:
http://wiki.sabayonlinux.org/index.php? ... tage_Guide

Mixing shouldn't be done unless you know what you are doing tho.
Again see our wiki:

The `Official Gentoo Repos` are many, in all countries....
they differ, from country to country.....
Sabayon USES (by default) some european Gentoo official mirrors..., and also the Sabayon Overlay.

for change this (chenge mirrors) some different manners....

1) you may modify etc/make.conf, in the lines gentoo-mirrors and rsync, adding the mirrors of gentoo for your country....

2) you may use the `mirrorselect` gentoo command, and change mirrors and rsync, for your country....

sudo equo install mirrorselect (OR emerge -av mirroselect)
sudo mirroselect -i ANd/OR
sudo mirrorselect -i -r

3) in adiction of the Sabayon Overlay (see with layman -l command), you may add (layman -a name of the overlay) other Gentoo overlays (example> Zugaina, Sunrise, Berkano etc..., see ALL disponible overlays, with layman -L command)

if you want to mix the installers, see the links given by Wolfden, edit the .etc/entropy/client.conf file, and attention for NOT USE of the emerge python command!
