games group not visible

Postby bg3075 » Sun Nov 15, 2009 4:31

I tried to install and ebuild xfrisk, which seemed to be ok but shows up nowhere. When running
Code: Select all
emerge xfrisk
a note was displayed that user must be in the "games" group in order to play games. So, I checked the Users/Groups but "games" is not listed as a group, and when trying to add it as a group it just shows up null. What gives?

Are you trying to run the game as root user, or under your normal user name? The standard SL install does not have the root user in the games group, but will include the installed non-root user(s) in the games group:

Code: Select all
$ su
Password:
# groups
root bin daemon sys adm disk wheel floppy dialout tape video clamav messagebus haldaemon
# exit
exit
$ groups
disk wheel floppy cron audio cdrom dialout video games cdrw usb users haldaemon plugdev scanner entropy pulse-access pulse-rt pulse crontab vboxusers polkituser
$

Yes, you are right, as my groups command displays exactly the same as yours with each user login. But, why doesn't games show up in the list of groups in the GUI "Users and Groups" manager?
